Last winter, in my internal drama of should we or should we not adopt, I was asked to create illustrations showing how to deliver a baby safely without passing on infections for a birthing kit used in Africa. Of course I was happy to participate in such a project. Looking back, I think it was ironic to be given such a project. It was as if God was trying to tell me to stop wallowing in my indecisiveness and DO something.

A Voice is Heard was founded with the belief that one person can indeed change the lives of others. Their mission is to work in partnership with children and families of developing nations who are in need of the basic necessities of life. Find sustainable solutions for the provision of food, water, medical care, education and alternative sources of income.
In Kenya, almost all births happen at home. 1 in 13 women die in childbirth related causes in Africa and infant mortality rates mirror these statistics. In January 2011, we distributed 400 birthing kits to improve maternal health. Seminars were given where nurses taught proper use and function. We continue to provide support for our clean birth initiative. Thank you to the doctors, nurses, midwives, and designers who helped provide supplies, information, illustrations as well as support.
